Hail check

Did that hailstorm damage your roof?

Answer two quick questions from the safety of your yard. The check uses the hail size and the marks hail leaves on softer metals to suggest whether to wait, book an inspection or call today.

Ground-level check

Check your roof from the ground

Pick the hail size you saw, then tap anything you can spot from the ground. You never have to climb a ladder for this. The result is a starting point, not a diagnosis; only a roof inspection settles it.

How to use the results

A low result means the storm probably passed without harm, but it is still worth a look at the ceilings after the next heavy rain. A middle result is the most common one in San Antonio: enough evidence around the house that a storm damage roof inspection is the sensible next step. A high result, or anything dripping inside, means call now so we can protect the house first.

Take these photos before anything gets cleaned up

  • Dented gutters, downspouts and the top of the AC condenser, with a coin or tape measure for scale.
  • Granule piles at the bottom of each downspout.
  • Hailstones next to a ruler if any are still on the ground.
  • Every ceiling stain, with the date and time in the photo.

Those photos help an inspector and an adjuster. If you plan to file, our guide to how a Texas roof claim works walks through the order of steps, and our claim help service covers what we document for you.

Questions about the hail check

Can the hail check tool tell me for sure that my roof is damaged?

No. It weighs the hail size and what you can see around the house to suggest a next step. Only a roof inspection confirms damage, because bruised shingles and cracked tiles are often invisible from the ground.

Why do dents in gutters and the AC unit matter for the roof?

Soft metals dent at smaller hail sizes than shingles bruise, so they work like a gauge. Fresh dents tell an inspector and an adjuster how big and how dense the hail was at your address, which supports what the roof inspection finds.

Should I wait for a leak before checking for hail damage?

No. Hail-bruised shingles often hold for months before they start leaking, and many policies set time limits on claims. Checking within days of the storm keeps your options open and gives you clean photos while the marks are fresh.
